This decisive leadership role offers the opportunity to join Cornwall’s highly rated Children’s Service and shape the next stage of our development. Our innovative, integrated vision for Cornwall’s children offers a new way of working which links social care, education and health much more closely with the aim of transforming outcomes for our children.
We’re seeking a highly experienced Children’s Social Care lead who has the vision, ideas and practice to help us to be outstanding. One of four senior roles that comprise the leadership team for Together for Families - the Council’s new Integrated Children’s Services Directorate, you’ll be involved in shaping the next stages of integration of our services. You’ll be the Council’s lead for safeguarding children and young people, the adoption and fostering decision maker as well as being responsible for embedding practice improvements through our social work model, ‘Signs of Safety’. You will ensure that the voice of the child is heard in all that we do and you’ll work collaboratively with internal and external partners to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families.
Success in our new integrated model will require you to perform in a range of settings and will demand closer working with education and health colleagues. We’ve made great strides in work around embedding early intervention & prevention in Cornwall and our integrated model offers new and even greater opportunities to improve our approach.
It’s important that our new Service Director truly believes in our One Vision Partnership Plan and in the benefits that integration can bring. However, it is equally important that you are strong enough to make your own mark on our social work practice and to help us shape the fundamental role that our social workers will play in our integrated vision.
You will be a qualified social worker and be able to demonstrate how you have demonstrate how you have led improvements in social work practice in previous organisations. However, it is imperative that you understand, not only the social care agenda, but also the wider children’s services agenda in education and health.
You’ll be both a team player and leader. Being able to influence and build strong relationships is a prerequisite for this role. You’ll be incredibly passionate about the challenge that this role brings - to be a key player in Cornwall’s new, integrated model for Children’s Services, defining what the next steps on integration look like in practice and shaping our newly formed directorate, Together for Families.
If you have what it takes to deliver on a demanding, change-driven, high profile role where you have the scope to shape the future for our children and young people, we’d love to hear from you.
